How to Design Effective Fleet Graphics
No fleet graphics company today understands the importance of good design better than ThumbPrint. When creating a design for your vehicle wrap, there are five principles we always keep at the forefront of our minds:
1. Think Three-Dimensionally
Fleet vehicles are often referred to as “mobile billboards” due to their effectiveness as a marketing tool, but there’s one very important thing differentiating them. That is, a full vehicle wrap has the advantage of offering complete three-dimensional coverage.
In other words, while a billboard has only one flat space for you to put advertising graphics, fleet vehicles offer striking branded visuals from a variety of angles. Keep that in mind when designing your fleet wrap; don’t just put branded imagery on the sides, but also on the roof, hood, and trunk.
2. Be Bold, Bright, & Boisterous
The whole point of wrapping your fleet vehicles is to grab people’s attention when those vehicles are on the move. Don’t shy away from bold, bright colors or large, boisterous text. If your logo or contact info is too small to read, that completely defeats the purpose of getting a wrap in the first place.
The same is true of wraps that use dull or muted color schemes. As long as it’s appropriate for your brand and your industry, you’re better off employing stark, dynamic colors that compliment each other and are pleasing to the eye. Don’t be afraid of being “loud.” In today’s oversaturated marketplace, you have to be loud to be heard over the din of competition.
3. Avoid Clutter & Color Clash
Being bold with your wrap design doesn’t mean being sloppy. Designs that are overly busy or chaotic ultimately confuse and turn off potential customers. For that reason, it’s important to avoid cluttering your design by putting too many visual elements too close together.
The main thing here is balance. You want to make sure all your key branding elements are included, but you also want to make sure they don’t interfere or muddle each other. Likewise, using vivid, striking color schemes is a good way to turn heads, but avoid colors that are too similar or that contrast in a way that is uncomfortable to look at.
4. Repetition is Not Your Enemy
When designing your fleet vehicle wraps, you might think to yourself “I already put my company’s logo on the door panel, I don’t need to repeat it elsewhere.” Well, think again! In marketing, repetition is your friend, not your enemy. It helps your branding stick in the minds of customers.
Remember, different people will see your vehicle from different angles. If your key graphics aren’t visible from every one of those angles, then you’re not taking full advantage of your wrap’s potential.
5. Include Important Information
A fleet wrap shouldn’t just be eye-catching. It should also be informative. The whole point of getting someone’s attention, after all, is so you can tell them about the products or services you provide. Also, since fleet vehicles are always on the move, it’s important that your audience be able to locate and contact you easily later.
That’s why, when designing your wrap, it’s essential that you make sure to include contact info, services offered, and other details that a customer would need to know. It’s not enough for them to have your name in their heads; they have to know how to reach you, also.
